Science Experiential Learning Excursions

Dear Pupils,

We will soon be going for another Science trip to the Raffles Museum. Since I don't make you keep a science journal, I would like you to take some time out to post a comment on this post with regards to the last science trip "Rainforest Walk".

Tell me if you enjoyed the outing and one interesting thing you learnt on the trip.

Adios,
Yew

I enjoyed the Rainforest walk . I learnt that there are four types of layers in the rainforest. They are the emergent layer , canopy layer , understorey layer and the forest floor .The emergent layer grows up to 80 metres . The canopy layer grows up to 3o metres. The understorey layer are the small tress waiting for chances to grow. The forest floor is warm and humid.

I enjoyed the Rainforest trip a lot. I learnt that there are different plant adaptations. They are the Buttress Roots,Cauliflory,climbers,drip-tips ,Epiphytes and shade-tolerant plants. The Buttress roots support the trees so it will not fall easily. The Cauliflory has flowers inside it.The climbers climb up the trees to get sunlight. The drip-tips prevent fungus from growing. The Epiphytes make their own food by photosynthesis and the shade-tolerant plants traps dead leaves to get nutrients.

Dear Loretta and SiangYing,

I am glad you enjoyed the trip as much as I do. From your comments, I can tell the two of you really learnt a lot from the trip. I am sure you have a much deeper understanding of the rainforest. Hopefully, like me you have learnt to appreciate the wonders of nature.

Love, yew

I really enjoyed the Rainforest walk.I learnt that every little plant has their own special thing.Like the Buttress tree,it stands in a sort of way that doesn't make the tree fall easily.I also learnt that how much deforestation can bring harm to the living things living in the forest.

i enjoyed the walk quite a lot even though it is quite tiring....
the walk has taught me quite alot of things. The drip-tips let the rain water drip immediately from the leaves to the floor and it prevents algae from growing.the bukit timah hill is 164metres high.

I enjoyed the Rainforest a lot.I should say that spending $12 is worth it although i went to the place before. When i went to the rainforest, i found out lots of plant which sometimes good to us,sometimes not good to us.I also learnt about the emergent layer, canopy layer, understorey layer and the forest floor.Next time when i went to the rainforest, i hope i can have the same guide, auntie Marlene to guide me and my family and tell us about the useful and unuseful plant again.

yes i definetly enjoy it very much.
i learnt that when a tree drop in the middle of a pathway they will take the tree up and put it at a side to allow organism to leave inside. After going these trip,i also learnt that we should be more careful at the natural reserve not to step on plant's root as they will feel the pain too!i too learnt,i learnt that are if a tree drop the tree beside it will also drop.Lastly,i learnt that we earn our food and air come indirectly from plant so lets us save plants from deforestation!

I really enjoyed the trip to Bukit Timah as i learnt a lot of things there such as some kinds of plants have twirling branches. I learnt that we should do our part to prevent deforestation as many animals will lose their home such as the birds even monkeys. We should save our earth!

I learnt alot of fact during the Rainforest walk. The 'Ranger' told us about lot of different plants. I think that the trip is very interesting but i also felt tired. I also learnt things like the four types of layers that can be found in the rainforest. The most interesting thing is when we saw a 'worm' like insect coming down from a tree, the insect move like from 'L' shape to U shape 'L' shape to 'U' shape......
But when it reached 3.20pm it started to drizzle. We have no chioce but to get in to the shade.
We also receive a book mark from the ' ranger'i wished that i could visit the rainforest again.
